The Challenge

We partnered with a future airport in Saudi Arabia to explore bold, blue-sky ideas that could redefine the airport experience. The brief wasn’t about solving current problems - it was about pushing C-suite thinking and imagining what air travel could become.

Value Delivered

We inspired leadership with eight bold, traveler-validated concepts that revealed what people actually want from future airports. The work helped shift thinking, highlight new directions, and show just how far the experience could go.

Background

In a fast-paced ideation sprint, our team developed eight app-based concepts. Each designer owned a few, creating two key screens per idea. We built posters to bring the ideas to life with visuals and short descriptions. To test them, another designer and I bought tickets, went airside, and spoke directly with travelers at the gate. We caught them at the perfect moment — waiting. We ranked their top three ideas and gathered insights from a wide range of travelers. It was quick, cheeky, and incredibly useful.

Solution

We created eight app-based concepts and tested them with real travelers. Each one explored a different way to transform the airport from a place you pass through to a place you enjoy. Through testing, we uncovered which ideas truly resonated - highlighting opportunities to reduce stress, spark delight, and reimagine dwell time as a moment of discovery.

Top 3 traveler picks:

-Smart Sleep Pods – Sleep without stress. Wake in time to board.
- SkyGuide – Turn your layover into an adventure.
-The Beauty Lounge – Relax with treatments that adjust to your flight.

(Other ideas included: Flights & Feelings, The Social Hub, Scandinavian Spa, The Early Advantage, Skyquest.)

In a workshop with the C-suite, we shared the ideas and test results. Leaders voted on their favorites and saw how closely their instincts aligned with travelers - building momentum and vision for what comes next.
